Note: Due to the popularity of this project many red yarns (like Skyland in Red Sky) are sold out at the yarn vendors. We have some other really nice red yarn options (in the drop down/pix below) that will work great—see swatches below for what we have in stock or can get soon. If you can wait (ETA March), you may preorder Skyland Red Sky or Malabrigo colors above.
To receive pattern updates we recommend directly purchasing the MELT THE ICE PATTERN on Ravelry! If you need the pattern let us know in the comments; we can give you download and send the proceeds to support th cause.
Join the thousands of "craftivist" knitters across the country protesting with this Melt the ICE Hat, originated in the Minnesota yarn shop Needle & Skein.
In the 1940’s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute. As purveyors of traditional craft, we felt it appropriate to revisit this design. You may request the pattern at checkout in the comments box. We HIGHLY recommend purchasing it directly on Ravelry so you are apprised of all updates and modifications.
Sample shown in Blue Sky Fibers Skyland for the DK version. However, the pattern will work with about 200 yards of RED yarn of any Fingering, DK or Worsted. Note: don't want red? The Ice Hat will knit up great in *any* favorite color!
Design by Paul Neary/Yarn Cult MN. All proceeds from the sale of the Melt the Ice pattern donated to the LynLake community of businesses who will distribute the funds to those impacted by the actions of ICE.
